An Environment That Sparks Innovation

Flexible “Clusters” for Research Autonomy

Within our research community, we form research “Clusters”—unique, researcher-initiated units organized around specific topics and goals. Because researchers best understand the frontier of their own fields, anyone can propose a new Cluster by preparing a “Vision” document outlining the research challenge, its potential impact, and the technologies required.

Clusters are launched after open discussion confirms that the proposal presents a convincing path toward addressing meaningful societal challenges. Researchers are free to join any Cluster and can participate in several simultaneously. While researchers work independently on their themes, collaboration with external partners is also common, strengthening research momentum.

Flexible Working Hours

Researchers work under a discretionary work system without fixed core hours. This framework allows you to manage your schedule autonomously, maximizing research performance while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Hybrid Work: On-Site and Remote

We combine collaborative on-site days—which foster spontaneous discussion and shared creativity—with remote work flexibility, enabling you to choose the environment best suited for focused research. This hybrid model balances team interaction with individual deep work.

A Self-Managing, Non-Hierarchical Organization

We operate with a self-managing, non-hierarchical structure designed to let researchers focus fully on their work. Instead of traditional departments, research is organized through flexible clusters, while various working groups support broader organizational functions. This approach is inspired by the principles of Teal organizations—autonomy, shared responsibility, and purpose-driven collaboration.

In a system without formal managers, evaluation is grounded in 360-degree peer feedback, where organizational contributions, research outcomes, and individual autonomy all play central roles. This structure empowers researchers to take initiative, collaborate freely, and pursue impactful work with a strong sense of ownership.

Publications & Academic Engagement

We strongly encourage researchers to publish papers, present at conferences, and take active roles in academic communities. You can build a career where corporate research and academic contribution truly go hand in hand. By sharing your work openly, you help advance your field and drive technological progress.

Activities such as conference organization are recognized and valued as important contributions. Researchers have full freedom to participate in conferences they judge beneficial—enabling rich exchange of ideas and meaningful academic engagement.
